Chottanikkara Temple
Chottanikkara temple is situated near Ernakulam in Kerala .This temple houses the Mother Goddess Bhagawati ,one of the most revered deities in Kerala.
On your way to Chottanikkara temple you will find the Poornatrayesa temple at Tripunittura. Here in the temple the Goddess is worshipped along with Lord Vishnu and both of them together is known as Lakshminarayana.
It is believed that people who have mental illness if they seek refuge here the mother Goddess blesses and cures them . Goddess Rajarajeswari is the main deity of the Chottanikkara temple .
And the deity is worshipped in three different forms as Goddess Saraswati in the morning – dressed in white, as Goddess Bhadrakali at noon dressed in crimson, and as Goddess Durga in the evening draped in blue.
The idol in the temple is not placed on the ground but is mounted on loose sand and during ablution ceremonies when water is offered to the deity it percolates underground
According to mythology it is believed that the Goddess appeared in front of Saint Vilvamangalam Swamigal.He was associated with this temple as well as with Guruvayoor.
'Maasi Magam' is an annual festival celebrated in the month of Kumbha (February - March) in Chottanikkara temple . This festival coincides with the full moon and large number of devotees throng the temple at this time .
Timings of Chottanikkara temple
The temple opens its gates from 5:30 in the morning and stays open till 12:00 in the noon.The gates of the temple are closed in the afternoon and it reopens again in the evening at 4:00 p.m.
The last puja in the temple is performed by 8pm after that the temple closes.
