Jallikattu Bull Fight is a very integral part of Pongal Festival. It can be said that it is a small yet very important festival within that big festival. Celebrated mainly in Madhurai, Tiruchirapalli and Tanjore in Tamil Nadu and some places in Andhra Pradesh, Jallikattu Bull Fight is considered to be a very daring event. It is so held because the unarmed villagers fight with wild bulls and try to control them to get hold of the bundle of money fixed to the bull’s horns.
But before the actual fight takes place in Jallikattu Bull Fight, cattle are decorated with garlands. Mango leaves are put around their necks. Their horns are painted to red, pink and other bright colors. After all these ornamentation these fully groomed cattle are led about in procession. In this procession devotees gather together and worship them.
