About Kavadi Festival :
Kavadi Festival is celebrated with the much zeal and gusto in Tamil Nadu. The devotees travel upto Palani hills to make their wishes come true. The devotees dance in the enrapture to the tunes of the drums and carry the floral decorations on their shoulders. When the ancient Tamils used to go to the pilgrimage they used to carry the offering tied on either end of the stick and poised on their shoulders. They used to sing and dance reciting the songs revering the Hindu gods. Kavadi festival dance is performed only by the men. This is actually a religious dance and is supported by Pambi and Naiyandi Melam.

Kavadi festival has a unique thing that the pain the devotee metes out on himself would bear thousand times more bliss and happiness than the little pain. “Kavadi” is a performance by the devotee. This may sound a bit of corporal mortification but thoughtfully viewed it will wipe out all the woes and bring the devotee in close communion with the Lord. After the performance the devotee’s spiritual cubicles open up to give him the immense pleasure.

This is the most formidable Kavadi offering that involves the devotee carrying the Kavadi on his shoulders and walking through the burning coals. The devotee gets mesmerized by the hymns and the drum beats and walks over the fire in an easy way. This is very astonishing.
