Thiruvalla Temple is located at Thiruvalla near Alappuzha and Kottayam in Kerala. This temple was built in pre Christian era.
Thiruvalla Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is knows as Vallabha or Kolappiraan. The image of Lord Vishnu or Vallabha in this temple holds a conch, a discus and a lotus in hands. If you head towards the west door of the sanctum sanctorum then you will get to see the Sudarsana Chakram of the deity. In Thiruvalla Temple you will also catch sight of an impressive flagstaff crowning an image of Garuda or eagle. It is of 50 feet in height and is made of black granite.
In the month of April or May a one day festival is conducted. To celebrate this festival, images of Kavil, Padappad and Alamthuruthu are brought from the nearby temples. These images are later returned to their original places with new clothes. These images are brought through the northern door of the shrine and it is only for this purpose this door is kept open.
