The Nataraja Temple - this holy and famous temple is situated in the heart of the town. It is extended over an area of 40 acres. It is considered to be one of the oldest temples of Tamil Nadu. In this temple main deity is air which is one of the five elements of the cosmos and is popularly called Akasa Lingam.
This temple has many important features. One of these is the roof of the sanctum which is gilded with gold plates. Also, the eastern tower (40.8 meter in height) and the western tower in the temple feature 108 Bharatha Natyam dance gestures.
Besides, there is a Northern tower as well in the temple which is 42.4 meter high. Apart from all these, The Sivakamiamman temple, the Sivaganga tank, the thousand pillar hall are other significant attractions of the temple.
Kali Temple - located on the northern end of the town, this temple is again very famous. Thousands of devotees come here for offering prayers. This holy temple was built by Kopperunjingan, who reigned between 1229 AD and 1278 AD.
Annamalai University - this university was established by Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar. It is a residential university. It is a famous center of Tamil learning and carnatic music. It offers various educational facilities also comprising of Medicine, Agriculture, and Engineering.
