Introduction to Munnar

Branded as the region for tea plantations and hill station, Munnar is a cozy town based within the southern state of Kerala. Travel to Munnar, which is placed at the union point of three major mountain streams namely Muthirappuzha, Chanduvarai and Kundala. While traveling to Munnar capture the beauty of dense forest, winding streets along the tea estates, rolling grasslands, steep rock face, refreshing waterfalls, pristine valleys and other attractions. Travel to Munnar during the months of August to March, that blessed with monsoon, which attracts thousands of tourist at this point of time. Munnar is even identified with the name - Kannan Devan Hills, from where Tatas gets its identity. Travel to Munnar for its hills where the highest peak being Anamudi, which is a famous trekking destination.

Tourist Attractions in Munnar

Capture the bird's eye view of the tea plantations along with the lake at the Mattupetty Lake and Dam. Trek along the Shola forests or visit the specialized dairy farm along with boating in the enthralling region of Mattupetty. The sight of rarest species of mountain goats, the Nilgiri Tahr in Eravikulam National Park within Rajamala is worth visiting. Enjoy the sight of the Echo Point or the views of Nilgiri Langur; the lion-tailed macaque at the sanctuary of Anamudi can be well appreciated. The native bird species of woodpeckers, Malabar gray hornbills, Ceylon frogmouths, parakeets can be seen in the Salim Ali (Thattekkad) Bird Sanctuary. One may even come across self-grown sandalwood trees, natural fresco caves, and remnants of Stone Age evolution at the Marayoor.

How to Reach Munnar

One can travel to Munnar through several domestic as well as international flights that base at the airports of Cochin (that is about 135 km) and Madurai (about 140 km).

The nearest railway stations from where one can travel to Munnar are Cochin, Dindigul (about 130km) and Coimbatore (165km). One has no direct railway station at Munnar, as it is a hill station.

One has no access to buses directly leaving from Chennai or Bangalore. The state transport buses even ply to Munnar from Dindigul, Coimbatore and Cochin. Taxis are also available in plenty.
