Wedding in Kerala

Kerala, the traditional and blessed state in India, is an exotic location to spend vacations. But if you think that this is the only thing that has made Kerala so popular then must say that you know half truth about it. Kerala is also a favorite spot for weddings. Tourists from all the corners of the world come down to Kerala to perform this most awaited event of their life. The core reason behind this is that weddings in Kerala are performed in a very royal yet simple style following rituals.

Wedding in Kerala means spreads served on banana leaves, caparisoned elephants to bring groom, classical dance and music performances, colored hands and feet of the bride with henna, bride clad in silk sari and the groom attired in elegant dhoti and white shirt.

On attending weddings in Kerala, you will see that weddings or marriage ceremonies in Kerala can precisely be divided into three stages. Pre-wedding ceremonies, Wedding ceremonies and Post-wedding ceremonies.

Pre-wedding ceremonies in Kerala begin with matching the birth charts of the boy and the girl. If the star signs of the both the charts match with each other then a date for the marriage is decided. Both the girl and the boy, who will tie knots on the ordained date, first take blessings of their respective family members.

On the day of the marriage however an array of rituals is performed. The marriage is conducted during the day. On the day of marriage and before proceeding to the venue of the wedding, the groom is supposed to visit a temple first and then seek the blessings of his parents and elders. Later when groom arrives at the bride’s house, he is first seated in a northwestern room. Here the father of the bride washes his feet and greets him. Next, the groom gives a white sari to the bride’s father to be worn by her. After these, a lengthy but interesting ceremonial process begins. Some of the ceremonial rituals that are performed include Feras, Taali, Kanyadaanam, Mantra enchantments, and others.

However, the post wedding ceremonies are little less in number. A feast is organized which is actually held to bid farewell to the bride to her husband’s home. Following this a ritual called "Grihapravesh" ceremony is performed whereby a welcome is given to the bride in her husband’s home.

Weddings in Kerala involve numerous ceremonies and rituals. But witnessing them is a great fun in itself. It truly leaves a mesmerizing impact on the mind. So if you want you can also perform your wedding in actual Kerala style and make this auspicious day of your life unforgettable.
